Telangana Dasara Holidays 2026 for Schools from October 10; Reopening on October 23

HYDERABAD: The Telangana School Education Department and the Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) have released the official vacation schedule for Dasara and Bathukamma festivals for the 2026–27 academic year. Schools across the state will observe a 13-day holiday, while junior colleges will get a 12-day break, starting October 10, 2026.

Detailed Holiday Schedule

The vacation calendar issued by the state authorities applies to all government, management-aided, private recognized, and residential educational institutions across Telangana:

  • Schools (Primary to High School):

    • Vacation Dates: October 10, 2026 (Saturday) to October 22, 2026 (Thursday) — 13 Days

    • Reopening Date: October 23, 2026 (Friday)

  • Junior Colleges (Intermediate):

    • Vacation Dates: October 10, 2026 (Saturday) to October 21, 2026 (Wednesday) — 12 Days

    • Reopening Date: October 22, 2026 (Thursday)

Strict Ban on Special Classes During Vacation

The state government has issued clear instructions to private and corporate school managements regarding the holiday period:

  • Zero Tolerance for Classes: Educational institutions are strictly prohibited from conducting any online or offline special classes, study hours, or entrance exam coaching during the vacation.

  • Inspection Teams Deployed: District Educational Officers (DEOs) and Regional Inspection Officers (RIOs) have been tasked with monitoring schools and junior colleges. Stringent disciplinary action, including the suspension or revocation of school affiliation, will be taken against institutions violating these rules.

Festive Significance: Bathukamma and Vijayadashami

The two-week break coincides with Telangana’s grandest cultural festivals:

  • Bathukamma: The floral festival celebrated primarily by women and young girls, culminating in Saddula Bathukamma.

  • Vijayadashami (Dussehra): Celebrated on October 20, symbolizing the triumph of good over evil.

The extended vacation provides ample time for students, teachers, and families residing in urban areas like Hyderabad to travel to their hometowns and villages across the state to celebrate the festivities together.
