BHUBANESWAR: To accelerate the adoption of green mobility and support sustainable transportation across the state, the Odisha government has officially extended the validity of the Odisha Electric Vehicle Policy, 2021 until December 31, 2026.
The official notification (No. PT11-TRN-LC-RT-0003-2017/12415/T) was issued by the Commerce and Transport Department on October 3, 2026, under the orders of the Governor of Odisha.
Key Highlights of the Policy Extension
Extension Period: The validity of the Odisha EV Policy, 2021, which was set to expire, has now been extended through December 31, 2026.
Legal Framework: The extension was executed under the powers conferred by Para 11.5 of the Odisha Electric Vehicle Policy, 2021.
Issuing Authority: The notification was issued and signed by NBS Rajput, Principal Secretary to the Government, Commerce & Transport Department.
Continued Benefits for EV Buyers in Odisha
With this extension, buyers of battery-operated vehicles across Odisha will continue to receive financial incentives and waivers:
100% Tax & Registration Fee Exemption: Complete waiver on motor vehicle (MV) road tax and registration fees for all categories of electric vehicles.
Purchase Subsidies:
Two-Wheelers: Subsidy of ₹5,000 per kWh, capped at a maximum of ₹20,000.
Three-Wheelers: Fixed purchase subsidy capped at ₹30,000.
Four-Wheelers: 15% of the vehicle cost (or ₹10,000 per kWh), subject to a maximum cap of ₹1,500,000.
Interest-Free Advance for Govt Employees: Eligible state government employees can continue to avail an interest-free advance covering up to 75% of the ex-showroom price (capped at ₹2 lakh) for purchasing electric vehicles.
Application Process
EV buyers can claim their state subsidies online through the official portal (odishatransport.gov.in) by submitting their vehicle registration details, chassis number, Aadhaar, and bank passbook details following vehicle registration.
